“I have always been drawn to the process of shaping ideas into built form. Architecture allows me to create places that are used every day to enrich the lives of others—an inherently optimistic endeavor.”
Mark Weber, AIA
Mark joined Wheeler Kearns Architects in 1989 and became a principal in 2001. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in 1982 and a Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1989, where he received departmental awards for Excellence in Design in 1987 and 1988.
With a diverse background that includes carpentry, furniture design, co-owning a construction and development company, and work in low-income housing, Mark brings a hands-on understanding of building to every project. His focus has been on homes and retreats—creating meaningful places where people can live, recharge, and connect. His deep knowledge of the landscapes and building conditions across Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois—including dunes, waterfronts, and complex natural sites—guides designs that respond to challenging sites with inventive and thoughtful solutions. Notable projects include St. Joseph Beach House, Fire Lane Retreat, Clearwater Lake Retreat, Ogden Dunes, Rocky Gap Stair, Camp Charlie, Courtyard Retreat, North Shore House, St. Joseph Residence I, Indian Hill Residence, and Upper Lake Jeptha Retreat. In addition to his residential work, Mark has contributed to nonprofit projects such as the Down Syndrome Association of NWI and the Beverly Art Center, which received a Richard Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence, as well as commercial projects including Baptist Family Dental, Nexterra Wine Co., three offices for a graphic design firm, and Eimer Stahl offices, and Trinity Arts.
2017, Mark’s furniture design was featured in AIA Chicago’s “Functional Objects by Architects” (FOBA) exhibition, which ran in conjunction with the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
Mark is a registered architect in the State of Illinois and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He previously served as vice president of the Beverly Area Local Development Corporation and was the head hockey coach at St. Ignatius High School.
Mark resides in Beverly with his wife, Meredith, a retired Chicago Public School teacher. They have three children – Jill, Josh, and Robby.
