“I’ve always been inspired by the wisdom of nature. With experience on projects of diverse types and scales, I love to solve problems beautifully with buildings that give back more than they take.”

Thomas Boyster

Originally from Germantown, TN, Thomas received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas. In 2022, received his Masters in Biomimicry from Arizona State University.

Since joining Wheeler Kearns Architects (WKA) in 2015, Thomas has worked on a range of projects, from small interpretive monument elements for the Tinley Creek + Deer Grove Wetland Restoration to a kit-of-parts system for Granor Greenhouse, to The Momentary – the transformation of a decommissioned cheese factory into a multidisciplinary performing and visual arts venue in Bentonville, Arkansas. He has contributed to a number of award-winning homes and retreats, including the Ravine House, honored with a Distinguished Building Award from AIA Chicago; the St. Joseph Beach House, recipient of Luxe Magazine’s 2020 National Contemporary/Modern Architecture Award; and the Lakewood Balmoral Residence located in a national historic district. Thomas played a pivotal role in the Hyperloop Station design competition, where the team’s innovative vision earned finalist recognition, was exhibited at SpaceX’s Hyperloop Design Weekend in College Station, TX, and received the BIM for Innovation Award at Build Earth Live.

With a particular interest in virtual reality technologies, Thomas seeks to explore and share new techniques with the team. He has taught several internal “WKA-U” lunch and learn courses including a four-part series on IES energy modeling software and one on “Architectural Visualization using Unreal Engine 4.” Thomas leads WKA’s “Green Team” which established a Sustainability Action Plan as part of the firm’s signing on to the 2030 commitment, and has served as a visiting critic at the University of Arkansas and the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Architecture.

Thomas is Living Future Accredited (LFA) and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Outside the office, he can be found reading, camping and designing games in his spare time. Thomas and his family reside in the Uptown neighborhood.
