“Solving problems is what drives me. I’m passionate about showing up, engaging fully, and making a meaningful, lasting impact.”
Calli Verkamp
Calli joined Wheeler Kearns in 2013 and became a Principal in 2023. A native Arkansan, she received her Bachelor of Architecture from the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas.
Her work spans a range of project types, from thoughtfully designed homes to transformative cultural institutions. She was the lead project architect for The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas, where a decommissioned cheese factory was reimagined as a vibrant center for contemporary art, performance, and community gathering. Other projects include the Ryan Learning Center renovation inside the iconic Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Children’s Theatre, and the Lookingglass Theatre Lobby, which transformed space inside the landmarked Chicago Avenue Pumping Station into an expressive, public-facing lobby with support spaces, café, bar, and rehearsal and education areas. Calli has helped clients achieve their deepest aspirations and live into their purpose with residential projects such as the Wicker Park Residence in a landmarked district, Galien River Retreat perched on a bluff, and Gallery House—a true connector between art, family, and a lush landscape.
Beyond her project work, Calli is deeply invested in mentorship and professional leadership. She has served as a mentor in the ACE Mentor Program, AIA Chicago’s Diversity Scholarship Program, and Girl Forward. She has lectured at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, been a visiting critic at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and participated in AIA Chicago’s Bridge and TransFORM programs. Currently, she serves on AIA Chicago’s Board of Directors as Vice President of Finance.
Calli is a registered architect in Illinois and Arkansas and a LEED Accredited Professional. She and her family call Chicago’s Roscoe Village home, where she loves being an engaged neighbor and serves as a Director of Roscoe Village Neighbors.
