In order to enjoy an uninterrupted view of Lake Michigan above the neighboring beach-houses, the main living spaces of this residence were lifted to the third floor. The second floor was devoted to the primary suite and two children’s bedrooms. The ground floor, located at grade, accommodates an in-law’s apartment and a family room, which opens directly to the outside.
Constructed with a continuous three foot wide skylight above, a light slot distributes daylight below through an aluminum grate floor on the third floor and open grate stair treads below. An alternating tread stair, located atop the central circulation zone at the third floor, rises up to a roof hatch, to access a future deck.
