We are thrilled to announce that the Broadway Youth Center has received a 2022 Brick in Architecture Award from the Brick Industry Association!

The façade comprises a patchwork of large masonry panels, made with varying shades and bricks, that wrap around and knit the building together like a quilt. By using the familiar, timeless material of masonry but detailing it innovatively and distinctly, the project expresses BYC’s unique identity and community ties while linking the building to the materials of the surrounding Chicago neighborhoods. The patterns of the quilt reduce the institutional feel of the building, and the warm, familiar earthen colors make the building approachable and welcoming.
