Calli Verkamp discusses The Momentary in AIA Committee on Design Webinar

Calli Verkamp presented alongside co-panelists Doug Farr, AIA and Todd Poisson, AIA as part of the AIA Committee on Design’s Adaptive Reuse Excellence Webinar. A recording of the Webinar is available on the AIA website.

Adaptive Reuse Excellence – Models to Define Value

Description

Successful adaptive reuse projects can maximize the potentials for existing buildings to both redefine themselves and their context, while honoring history. Through exploring several case studies as potential prototypes to consider, be inspired by creative, high-quality design, learn innovations of sustainability, and come away with a greater understanding of the built environment’s role in communities.  Hosted by Committee on Design (COD) and Historic Resources Committee (HRC).

Learning objectives

After attending this program, participants will be able to:

1.   Investigate approaches that blend and translate histories to expand their life and give them new relevance.

2.   Be inspired by design excellence projects in adaptive reuse that are a vehicle for positive change in communities.

3.   Learn approaches to the technical challenges of cost, constructability, and sustainability for adaptive reuse projects and the role of data in these approaches.

4.   Explore the ways in which architecture can improve health and well-being through sustainable approaches to existing buildings.
